I know me and the one thing that constantly stays on my mind is my kids (who are 12 and 15) and what do they do when I am not around...I always make it a point to mention smoking, drinking, drugs, and sex...just so they feel comfortable in talking with me. I have truly amazed at how open my son (the 15 year old) has been with me...That is one thing I am truly thankful for! The other side of it is my daughter (the 12 year old), she is fast approaching the age as to when I started "getting in trouble"...I just pray everyday that I am doing the right things to keep them away from all of the things that are out there. I am realistic, and kids will be kids, and they will try things just because they are there...
This is one of the resolutions I have made for this year...I am devoting more time and energy focusing on what is going on in my children's lives than I have in the past. I found this really neat article that really gives me some good ideas...I hope you enjoy it too...

Hi everybody! Man is it cold outside! Right now I believe it is 16 degrees in Eagleville! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year! I did, but I am kinda glad it is over...I can rest and get back to normal!

I thought I had better give an update on my quartet...We are so excited, we are competing in our regional competition in March! We all figured out our name...it is...Backstage Pass! Isn't that cool! We usually practice on Saturday mornings, and I can't wait until this weekend! I kinda miss my friends....Kay who is our Bass, Tracy who is our lead, Lynett who is our Tenor, and of course ME who is the wonderful Baritone!

I have made huge mistakes in my life...who hasn't? We learn by those mistakes, we pick ourselves up off the floor, and we dust ourselves off. I have made some huge decisions over the past few weeks that have put a great peace in my heart. I have been so guilty of trying so hard to please others that I have forgotten about my own sanity! I don't know how many of you know, but I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy last year. For those of you that don't know what it is...you suffer from sleep spells. No matter how much sleep you get at night, it is never enough to get you through the day. As you grow older it gets worse. I take medicine during the day just to help me function. The medicine I take is a very highly controlled substance, but it is what I need to function. When I don't take the medicine I can't make it through the day! It is so frustrating! I want to be normal, but I don't know that I will ever be normal...anyways....I got sidetracked...(very typical)!

I read an article the other day and it was so true to me that it hit me smack dab in the middle of my face! It was about a man that went to take golf lessons from a pro in Ireland. The first thing the pro told him was to make sure that no matter what to walk the course and enjoy the game. So many of us have to ride the cart and get from one hole to the next as fast as we can instead of walking and enjoying the scenery and reflecting on the whole experience! I am one of those people! I have been so wrapped up in getting my degree that I have not enjoyed the times I go to the ballgames to watch my daughter cheer or simply just laugh and carry on a conversation with my kids without yelling at them because I was trying to get homework done. I wanted to move up in the company and if you are going to be able to do that "you have to have your degree"... Well, it took me a year and a half and I have finally decided...pooey on the degree! My sanity and enjoying my family is so much more important! I love singing! I want to enjoy every minute I can singing and every experience with my quartet and chorus! I can't do that when I have other things fogging my views! Me being so tired all of the time doesn't help either! So...there it is...I am going to enjoy the walk and not ride the cart! My children are only this age once and I am only going to be the age I am once!

Issues

It goes something like this...we all have issues...
No matter how much you love your spouse, every marriage has it's bumps and bruises. Now, this is not going to be a Mike bashing party...we both just need prayers right at this moment. We have several things pressing on our lives one being money (who doesn't right?) and the other that is on my mind is Iraq! Yep, that is right we will be lucky if he has 6 months before he leaves...That one was signed, sealed, and delivered this weekend during the National Guard Christmas festivities! Those of you that know us, know that Mike spent over a year in Germany, he has been back not quite 2 years. 14 months away from home, no matter where you go, is a long time! I did ok, and I had some wonderful people in our lives that even paid for one of my trips to go visit him (that was a perk), but when he came back we had issues.........(sound familiar)...When you have been the "main" adult running the show, and all of the sudden you come in and there are shoes sitting on the floor that didn't sit there before or clothes laying on the bed that you are not used to you have "issues"....It seems like we have just gotten past those issues, and it looks as if it is going to happen again...The only problem this time is there will be issues on top of all the other issues! IRAQ! We were lucky the first time, but it doesn't appear to he is going to dodge the bullet this time...:-( Please, please, please keep us in your prayers! There will be issues (there is that word again) that will come up financially, emotionally, physically, and emotionally(had to put that one in there again, once wasn't enough) that we will be dealing with from now until he gets back from being deployed...

There just always seems to be issues (should have been my middle name)...:-)

New Quartet

Yep, that is right...I am officially in a new barbershop quartet (all women), and we sound pretty doggone awesome if I do say so myself! I am so excited, already I have made 3 wonderful new (well maybe not new, but closer) friends! I of course will letting you know much more about it as I go along on this wonderful journey! We will be competing against other quartets at our regional competition in March of 2008...So wish us luck, and stick around in the future for the ride...

Well, it is me again talking about all of my woes...I have too much going on and I feel as if I am spinning out of control. School...I know it is important, but is it sooooo important that I don't enjoy my family the way I should, or feel like I am on the verge of a nervous breakdown? No...I don't think so...but this is something I want to finish, for not only my sake, but my family's sake...When do you back out and say, "I can't handle this right now" and how do you do it without looking like a failure? I soooooooo need some encouragement right now! I pray, but I don't think I am seeing the answer...or maybe the answer is right in front of me, and I just don't have my eyes open wide enough to see it....

Weekend with teenagers...

Spending time with 20+ teenagers in Pigeon Forge can be a chore just thinking about it, but it can also be a blessing in disguise. Being in the mountains and seeing God's glory all around with the beautiful colors of the trees was amazing!

On the flip side of that watching my son ride this thing called the Skyscraper was as equally amusing...the look on his and Alex's face was priceless...

So why is it so important to go back to school 20 years after the fact and get a degree? A piece of paper that you pay thousands of dollars for to say that I have something just so I can get a better position, which I could have done in the first place and had more sanity if had more time to spend with my family and not gone crazy! LOL! (Boy, that was nuff said)...I am currently taking Sociology and philosophy together...What ever possessed my brain to do such a thing? Going from Aristotle and Socrates and what they thought the body and mind were to the sociological effects of people in Rwanda is beyond my capacities of thinking right at the moment!

So I needed a little inspiration and this is what I found...This! I need to take everyone of these into consideration! How about you?

Whoo....what a ride! I haven't posted in a while, I have been so busy I can't hardly keep up with myself! Oh well, just to let you know how my chorus turned out, WE were 13th (1 point away from 12th, might I say) in the WORLD! Woo hoo! What a great and awesome chorus we are! Also, would you believe that we scored the highest score for a debuting chorus at International in 20 years! That is right 20 years, and to top that there has only been 3 other choruses to top that score in the history of SAI Internatinal competition! Yeehaw! Anyways, I have got a couple of things I want you to look at...PICTURES! We have a wonderful photographer, Ron Box (Out of the Box Photography) that takes our pictures for all functions take a look at THIS! Ok...so I am back....
After a very extensive, long week our show is over, and it was one of the most awesome experiences of my life! I was the show chair this year, and although it was a lot of work if was very, very rewarding! The adrenaline, energy, and just the simple fact I got to speak in front of 1300 people (even if it was just a few little lines :-) )! The costumes we have not are just awesome! Oh...and let me tell you what else happened! We were presented with this huge plague by one of our state senators from Governor Phil Bredeson, and he declared October 11th (the day we are competing in Calgary) as TuneTown recognition day! How cool is that !!!!

We only have 2 more weeks until we compete in Calgary, Canada! This is no little league competition! We are competing against choruses from all over the globe! If you are able you can watch us via webcast Thursday October 11th at 11:52 am...(that is mountain standard time, 1:52 Central time)! TuneTown Show Chorus and 32 other women's choruses all competing! Can you imagine all of the women that will be there? We have 90 women that will be on stage, some of them have over 150...What an awesome experience! If any of you would like to come with me one evening (we have rehearsal every Monday night in Bellevue) just to experience what a wonderful thing Sweet Adeline's International is please let me know! I would love for you to come with me!

Where do I start? I have so much going on right now, I would give anything to just stop and enjoy life around me! I am so guilty of not slowing down! The chorus I am in has our annual show 2 weeks from tonight! Oh, and did I mention, I am show Chair this year? Yep, that is right, I am the head honcho...It is an awesome and wonderful experience, but working full time, going to school at night, rehearsal on Mondays for 3 hours, plus all of the hours at home working on the show, ballgames (have I mentioned my daughter is a middle school cheerleader this year :-) ), I think my brain is slowly shutting down! UG! One thing I am totally excited about is my chorus is competing internationally next month in Calgary, Canada! Take a look here! A whole week competing, and spending time with my husband!

Tomorrow we are going to church with my mom and dad. They are having their Friend's Day! It should be totally awesome! They are having the Jesus Painter at both services. If you have never seen one of his videos, you really need to watch it!

Also, please be praying for my friend Tam and her whole family...They are making some big decisions right now and need all of the prayers they can get! I am so excited for them!

Right at this moment I am having a conflict...I feel as if my whole life revolves around pulling people. Emotionally, spiritually, physically...I am the leader! I just wish I those around me that would take the reigns and pull me for a little while. If I sit back and don't (for example....the trash) constantly have to tell people it is there and it needs to be taken out, it just doesn't get done. Why is this? I have to take the initiative at everything, at home, at work, and sometimes I even feel that way with church. I am so tired, yet I don't feel as if i do enough! Is there a word for this, or a name? I am sorry this is so about me...but right at the moment it is what is on my heart...

Why do adults act the way they do? They yell and scream at their children telling them not to do this or that all because they have done it before or they are currently doing it themselves. Their children have been exposed to the sinful world because they see it in their parents!!!! I love my own children with all of my heart, I know that they are going to make mistakes and have downfalls. But what better way to teach them to make the right decisions than through nothing more than being an EXAMPLE! I struggle with this is there anyone else out there that has issues with these type of people?

Ha! Go figure, no football game tonight...They cancelled all outdoor activities for our school system today...14...that's right 14 days straight over 100 degrees and they don't know when it will go down....Record Breaking! 23 days out of 24 in August have been 95 degrees and above! The longest record in the state history for any month of any year! When will it cool off? UG!

Ok...next subject...
I have been home from work since about 5:30 today. We had subs for supper...how simple...LOL, everyone gets to fix it just like they like and mom doesn't have to do it for them! Anyways...I have been laying in my bed with peace and quiet since around 7ish...working on homework, responding to my TAGS (thanks TAM), just plain ole surfing....I reckon I better give my eyes a rest...I have to get up and go to work and look at the computer all day long!

Hummmmmm let's see....

1. I have a tendency to be a little too (how do you say this) over analytical....My husband absolutely hates it, because he feels like I knit pick at everything...
2. I sing...yes I sing, in a wonderful chorus of over 90 women...(and yes if you can imagine 90+ women in one room once a week for 3 hours straight after dealing with life all day long) It is awesome...check us out! TuneTown
3. I hate to read...I know, I know, I am not American...LOL! I just can't sit still long enough to read a book. I have got to get to the point right now, and reading a book takes way too long!
4. I am going to college...yes, after 20 years I decided to go back to school and get my degree! Woopee!
5. My great grandmother knew Charles Lindbergh! He built the Spirit of St. Louis right next door to her restaurant in San Diego, and she actually got to sit in the plane!
6. My son Trevor, who will be 15 next month, went on his first mission trip to Mexico this summer, and now he says he wants to be a missionary! How awesome is that?
7. My next door neighbor is Cindy Morgan...the christian artist!
8. My brother, Jason, is a Doctor....that is right a full fledged one! HA! I wouldn't let him touch me with a 10 foot pole, but he does surgery on peoples brains and hearts!

Now I just have to figure out who I am going to tag! LOL

Well, there she is...following right in her momma's footsteps! Taylor had her first official Middle School football game on Thursday. Little miss cheerleader has become what she has wanted to do every since she learned how to talk. (And believe me she can do a lot of that!)LOL! It is so hard to see them grow up. She just turned 12 years old and she is my BABY! This little bitty nothing is turning into a beautiful young lady more and more every day!

August 10th, 1995 5 weeks before her time, and coming into this world at a whopping 3 pounds 8 ounces, Taylor Madison was born...my little sunshine! No bigger than the palm of most adults hand, my tiny, but perfect, little girl showed me from that day forward that she wanted attention! LOL! Happy 12th birthday, Taylor! I love you!

Okay, this is going to be a real heartfelt outpouring....

I am exhausted! I have so many things on my plate right now that my mouth is too full! I work a full time job (and even overtime), I sing in the most awesome Chorus in the world! We are competing in Calgary in October, I am chair of our show this year at the Acuff Theater on September 22nd. I going to school taking 2 classes at time. My two beautiful children are growing up right in front of my eyes...My son...fixing to be 15 in September...just came back from a missions trip in Mexico! The pride and joy that I felt when he came back telling me he wanted to go to David Lipscomb and be a missionary! My daughter, sweet little Taylor, is not so little....as a matter of fact she is now a Middle School cheerleader and too big for her britches! I am feeling so guilty right now...I am not able to spend the time with my children that I want to...I know I need to cut back, but where do you begin? Oh, and let's not forget my husband...Mike...I don't know where he fits in (poor guy)...

Nothing is better than taking a couple of days off to do absolutely nothing. Just sit back to revive, rejuvenate, and revamp! I have lounged in the pool, gotten a massage, surfed the net, and done laundry (oops, that is not relaxing, but it sure is a good feeling to get it done!)...Today my son and I are going to go see a movie, not sure which one yet, but it will be fun!

I am so thankful and gracious that the Lord has given me the wonderful life that I have. I am a wife, mother, friend, employee, student, and a singer! All the talents he has blessed me with make me complete! Thank you Jesus for being my one and only Savior!

Why is it so hard to swollow when good friends have to go? I know that difficult times are inevitable, but why is so hard to lean on God when we need to the most? Our feelings and emotions get all tied up and make it almost relentless to look at situations clearly. We don't always know why things happen, but they happen for a reason. Just trying to hold on to that hope that we are promised is much easier sometimes than others!

With all of the wonderful technology we have these days, does anyone ever try to be their own doctor? Typing your syptoms into Google is so simple....I sit down and I go over everything I can think of looking for information. I have had this ongoing problem, and seems that there is never an end to it...
First, my blood pressure drops too low (90/56, that is dangerous), I pass out in the bathroom...so the doctor takes me off all of my blood pressure medicines (diuretics and bpm)...
Well, because I had been on the diuretics for so long my ankles just seem to swell, and swell, and swell...the advice from doctor, "well I really don't want you to take the diuretics, but only take them if you absolutely need them"...My ankles are as big as cantelopes by now...DUH!
Now, as of yesterday, my bp is going right back up...(2 pm today 132/90)
UUUUUUGGGGGGG! Does anyone else get frustrated at doctors these days?

Now, let me make this statement...my brother is a radiologist...not just your normal radiologist, but an interventional radiologist...Even he says you can't have someone go cold turkey with this kind of meds...

Ok, so I am rambling...it just seems that when you go to a doctors office these days, it is lets see how many patients we can get in and out today so we can make more money....
Where is the customer service? If I treated my customers at work the way we get treated by doctors I would be fired!!!

Sleepy Sore Saturday

So after a day of digging, planting, mulching, and much much more....I am exhausted! Cleaning around my house is a never ending cycle. Once I get the laundry done (or should I say half way done), there are more dishes to wash, floors to vacuum, and grass to cut! UG! So when do we get a break? I did stop to get in the pool for about 45 minutes, only to pick up the vacuum and plug it up and start cleaning the bottom of the pool! LOL! I really should be cleaning now instead of writing this post...he, he! Oh well, sometimes we have to let go of the dirty clothes, kids, and animals just so we can keep our sanity!

Emotions

What do you do when you loose someone you love dearly? How do you put those feelings into words? Loving someone that has been there all of your life and now they are gone. A grandparent is someone that no one can replace. The love, companionship, and understanding that they give is no match! Although knowing they are in a much better place and are no longer in pain and suffering is much more of an ease to one's soul.

I love you Grampie, we will all miss you dearly!

Why is it that when it gets to be this time of year, we are so glad our kids are out for the summer? Am I crazy, or do somehow we need a break from all the "drama" that goes on all the time with school? I know, with one teen and another almost teen, it is one thing from day to day...especially with my youngest...(Boys are so much easier than girls!) LOL! Wow, they grow up so fast!

Maybe it it is just the fact that we don't have to strain ourselves to get not only ourselves up and out the door, but that we have to get every other person in the house up and out the door. During the summer we get to sit back and relax a little!

Today was so nice, I layed out by the pool for a while listening to the birds and enjoying the sunshine! Although it was mostly hazy today (smoke from the fires in GA and FL), but it still was a beautiful day... Enough of a breeze to keep us cool...

I tell ya...It is almost midnight and I have just completed a paper for my intercultural communications class I am taking. Really why do we go back to school when we get older? I am almost 37 years old, what really is there to gain from it?
Honestly, I want more! I want my children to have more! I never completed college the first time around and I really think that I am getting so much more out of it than I did the first go around. I appreciate it more, but it is totally exhausting. Just having 1 almost 2 teenagers is enough to keep me going as it is...
Anyway, I love my children, I love what I do at work, and why not continue to strive for something better. I am being an example to my children that I want them to see!
